Africa Alive

The children of Lions Class have enjoyed a fabulous day out at Africa Alive this week! Despite the very changeable weather, which really was a case of four seasons in one day, our spirits were not dampened!

The children took an interest in all of the animals that they saw and we were able to use our knowledge of continents to discuss where in the world they originated from. The children were particularly fascinated by the meerkats and the lemurs.

We also enjoyed a talk on giraffes and discovered lots of interesting facts, including why they have black tongues. You'll have to ask one of our Lions if you want to know the answer to that fun fact!

We ended our day with a train ride around the zoo and got to see our friends from Sutton, who had spent the day there too.

More outdoor learning!

Once again the children of Lions Class have taken full advantage of the beautiful weather! Within their outdoor learning the children have been painting with water and using chalks to practice their tricky word writing on the playground.

The children were also given shape riddles to solve and then went on a scavenger hunt, around the school grounds, to find the respective 2D and 3D shapes. The children also enjoyed hiding the shapes for their friends and developed their own shape treasure hunt.

The children consolidated their knowledge of number and place value with a carousel of activities and games. The children worked with their learning partners to order numbers from greatest to least, solved doubling number problems and also ordered even numbers from 0 to 50.

We are geographers

Within our geography the children of Lions class have been looking at the hot and cold climate zones of Earth. This week the children focused on the equator and the countries which lay along it. The children were tasked to identify five different countries and made effective use of atlases to locate them on their maps.

Outdoor learning

This week the children of Lions Class have taken full advantage of the beautiful spring weather!

For our science learning we continued searching for signs of the season and created season sticks to reflect the environment around us. The children were able to make contrasts with those that they had created during the winter months and made predictions as to what they imagine our summer sticks will look like, when we come to do this activity again at the end of the term.

For our PE learning, the children have been practising their throwing and catching skills. The children thought about the accuracy and control they needed to use to ensure their partners were able to catch the beanbag. The children also worked on their balancing skills during our cool down.

We have been looking at adverbs within our English this week. The children enjoyed the circle games that we played to put their new found knowledge to the test!
